Story of the Owner: Tota Oung
My parents are Cambodian. I was born in the midst of the Khmer rouge regime in 1981 in Bangkok. I arrived in Montreal in 1982. I opened my first restaurant in July 2017. Food piqued my interest at a very young age. I started mimicking my mom’s cooking at the age of 7. Food has always been my passion. Naturally, having a restaurant of my own has long been a dream of mine. Cambodian cuisine is underrepresented in Montreal, and I wanted to change that. I wanted everyone to see the potential and rich history of Cambodian cuisine and culture. I wanted to be part of the restaurant community while connecting with my roots.
I am proud that through my kitchen, people can discover an aspect of Cambodian culture other than what they may already know. I am proud that people get to experience how traditional Cambodian food can translate effortlessly through fresh and local produce. As a final word, I implore you to always be kind to your waiter!
